From a big break on a John Lewis advert to collaborating with Tyler, The Creator, South London’s Lola Young has quickly established herself as one of UK pop’s brightest solo talents. It’s no surprise, as the BRIT School graduate hails from a creative family: her great-aunt is Gruffalo creator Julia Donaldson. The singer-songwriter first captured Britain’s attention in 2021 with her beautiful cover of Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder’s “Together in Electric Dreams” and, in 2024, her TikTok-approved single “Messy” ensured the world was paying attention. Raw lyrics, relatable situations and an unmistakable attitude punctuate her tracks, whether it’s the dreamy “Charlie” with Lil Yachty or complicated love song “Wish You Were Dead”.
