Coldplay’s spectacular, outer-space-themed Music of the Spheres tour—on the final leg of its three-year world journey—is “all about the crowd”, drummer Will Champion tells Apple Music, describing the energy as “open and joyful.” Originally in support of the UK rock band’s 2021 album of the same name, the show has grown to include their 2024 work Moon Music. “A lot of the Moon Music songs were recorded, and for the most part conceived, while being on tour,” Champion adds. “So it’s almost like that’s their natural home.” And the band definitely had stadiums in mind for these tracks—like “ALL MY LOVE” and “WE PRAY”. “Quite a lot of the time we think about how certain songs might fit into the live set,” Champion says. “These songs are live creatures.” The drummer also believes experiencing music live is vital and that the band’s catalogue makes “more sense when you’re surrounded by other people”. “There’s a communality which is very difficult to replicate on a record,” he says.
