Redención (Deluxe)

Redención (Deluxe)

The rise of Double P Records as a proverbial force to be reckoned with in música mexicana continues upwards with Los Dareyes De La Sierra’s first full-length for the Peso Pluma-helmed label. Led as always by singer/accordionist José Darey Castro, the corridos-centric group makes their latest outing an entirely collaborative one, linking with established and rising stars alike in the wider genre, including LEGADO 7 and Santa Fe Klan. Hedonistic self-indulgence and outsize luxury characterise their internal team-ups with Tito Double P and the aforementioned Peso Pluma on “Vita Fer” and “Supreme”, respectively. Yet there’s a range and depth to Redención and its themes that further bolster the undeniable artistry. Heartbreak and heartache make for some of the album’s most meaningful lyrical moments, drowning sorrows alongside Grupo Firme on the downtrodden “Según” and numbing oneself with superficial pleasures with Neton Vega on “Boneless”. Self-pity flips to righteous anger as needed, too, as evidenced by the embittered Gabito Ballesteros team-up “Te Engañe”.
